Finding your first mission
In Space Punks, missions pay in loot, and the one thing everyone's after: fame. To start earning some, you don't have to look far.
Exit Luke's Banya and find Virgil, the Gambit's sentient AI system. After a brief intro explaining all your stuff was lost on the journey, he'll give you a few welcome items plus your first gig, A Safe Teleportation. As far as Hoardspace jobs go, it's not pretty – clearing plagued nanobot sawtooths from a smuggler extraction point – but it'll kickstart your journey.
Meet Virgil, the Gambit's sentient AI system
Accept the mission, listen to Virgil's quick spiel, then head to the Relay when you're ready to go. There are several other mission NPCs, including Dr. Lugubelenus, Sparrow, and K1-42. Though they don't have anything for you yet, they'll have plenty of gigs as you make a name for yourself. Open up your galaxy map. Read the blurb about Stopan, and click the ! icon when you're ready to start your mission. Changed your mind? Hit Cancel or the right arrow key.
Prepare to blast off
Rootin', tootin', and a whole lot of shootin'
Before deploying to the dangerous planet of Stopan, you and your squad will get the chance to ready up. When you're good to go, hit F. Once you're on the ground, you've got one objective: Exterminate the robots however you'd like. Slice 'em, shoot 'em, blow 'em up – it's your call.
The missions of Space Punks feature dynamic environments, meaning that no two playthroughs of a mission will be the same. If you get lost wandering the stopanite-studded wasteland, follow the skull-and-arrow cursor. For a bit of extra chaos why not try messing with the destructible environment? After all, Stopan is a planet full of exploding crystals.
The rocky, explosive surface of Stopan
If you're playing solo, be sure to use your dash. We weren't kidding when we said Space Punks is nonstop action. Staying still in a swarm of enemies is the best way to swiftly end up dead, and there's no second-chances if you're downed.
The outlaw you're playing informs the strategy you'll want to take. Rolling with Eris or Bob? Use their mobility to keep yourself safe, traps to clear, and ranged fire to keep the bots away. Playing Duke or Finn? You can get up close and personal – but not for too long.
Playing with a group is the prime Space Punks experience. Experiment with your character's abilities, including maximising damage by using buffs. Get creative with laying traps, snaring enemies, or plain old beating them to a pulp.
Outlaw synergies are vital for high-stakes gigs (like fighting mecha scorpions), but for now, focus on giving these scoundrels a test run.
But don't worry if you get knocked down - you'll respawn (unless one of your space-chums can haul you to your feet first!)
Stopan's sawtooths aren't happy to see you
Tip | Looking for more loot? Try busting the crates stashed all over the mission zone.
The colour key is:
- Purple – Gear/Weapons
- Blue – Resources/Materials
- Yellow – Sweet, sweet money!
Upon reaching the extraction point, you'll need to fend off waves of increasingly angry sawtooths. Stay alive long enough for the gang back at Devil's Gambit to boot up the extraction teleporter, then request an uplink and get the hell out of there. And just like that, you're on your way to becoming a famed Hoardspace outlaw.
When you're back at the Gambit, head to the mission board to receive your payment.
- 100 Fame
- 66 coins
- A reward crate
- Whatever you took on Stopan
Now that you've got some fame, why not head to the Vault to store your stuff?
One punk's trash is another punk's treasure. With endless gear possibilities, you'll need someplace to store all the riches and materials you rack up. That place is the Vault, your own personal cache on Devil's Gambit. Here you can stash weapons, armour, trinkets – anything you like.
The Vault stall in Devil's Gambit
Here's a rundown of your vault's subsections:
The bread and butter of any scoundrel's loadout, Pistols, automatics, rail guns, launchers of all kinds – Hoardspace weapons run the gamut. With so many options to choose from, there'll always be something new to shoot, stab or explode your enemies with. Since there's so much choice, your weapons are split into melee and guns.
Things get red-hot out in Hoardspace. To avoid getting blown to bits, invest in good-quality armour.
The smuggler's safety blanket. Any that you pick up (or build) can be found in this section.
What's an outlaw without their lucky charm? Trinkets offer your character stat boosts not otherwise found in armour or shields. Keep one on you to give yourself an edge in a firefight.

Let 'em Upgrade You
So, you made it back in one piece. Great – it's time to power up. Head to the Enhancer who'll show you all available upgrades for your character. Damage buffs, heals, new skills – pick whatever suits you best. If you're a brawler, load up on health talents. Prefer to hang back and strike at the opportune moment? Aim for skills that increase your chance to crit enemies. Not sure who you want to be yet? Mix and match until you discover a combo you like.
Once you're happy with your new talents, confirm and close out. With your outlaw on the road to becoming unstoppable, there's just one last thing to upgrade: your gear.
Visit the Enhancer to upgrade your outlaw
If you're wondering what to do with all the materials you raided, look no further. Collect blueprints and use your mats to make mods for your armour, weapons, shields, and trinkets. Components, software, hardware, and talent items are also available to craft, though you won't have enough fame or materials to try those out right away. Give it a bit more time and you'll be whipping up all sorts of contraptions!
The road to galactic glory
Your progression from zero to definitely-not-a-hero takes the form of the Road to Glory, a progression system that tracks your accomplishments right from the start. Completing your first mission will net you your first reward crate, with more to come as you take on the gig to restart the mining facility and unlock services from more of the shady figures in Devil's Gambit.
You're on the Road to Glory
That's about it! With your first mission down and a quick look at the vital spots in Devil's Gambit, you're more than ready to take on the galaxy. Go forth and plunder, outlaw!
